A day without laughter is a day wasted. ~Charlie Chaplin
Class Description: This class is required for all cheer, yell and songleaders. Class time is used for rehearsal for competition and games as well as preparing things (posters, team treats, etc.) for school teams. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO ATTEND CHEER CLASS EVERY TIME!!! If you know you will be missing cheer class, please let Lena know in advance. If you are sick and won’t be at school, please call your captain or leave a message on Lena’s cell phone.
Grading: Your grade will be determined as a percentage of the total points YOU earn during the term. The following grading scale will be used to determine grades:

92-89 =A-
88-86 =B+
85-83 =B
82-79 =B-
78-76 =C+

72-69 =C-
68-66 =D+
65-63 =D
62-60 =D-

Class Participation: You are expected to attend every class. You must dress in cheer appropriate attire each class. We will begin class at 12:55pm. This will give you time to change into practice clothes. You will be marked tardy if you come after that time and will lose participation points. Every class period is worth 10 points. If you are to class on time, dressed for practice, and participate, you will earn your full 10 points for the day. If you are late, not dressed, don’t have shoes, wear jewelry, don’t help with mats on a consistent basis, etc., half or more of your points will be deducted from your participation points for that day.
Games & Scheduled Cheer Activities: Every game you are required to attend will be worth 50 points. If you are on time, wearing the right uniform, and participate in the game, you will receive the full 50 points. Points will be deducted for being late, wearing jewelry, talking or goofing off too much, looking bored, or not doing what the captains ask, etc. If you consistently perform poorly, have a bad attitude, and remain un-teachable, you will be benched from games.
Other scheduled activities will be assigned points depending on the activity. If you do not participate, come late, or have a bad attitude, you will receive no or partial points.
Competition rehearsals: All out of class rehearsals are MANDATORY for cheer and song! Everyone in the routine is required to attend! Song Competition rehearsals will be held every Monday, the time TBA, starting in October. Cheer Competition rehearsals will be held every Wednesday evening from 5:00pm-8:00pm, unless told otherwise. If you know in advance you will miss a rehearsal you must tell Lena as soon as you know. If there is an emergency or illness, please try and let your captains or Lena know before the practice begins. Please only wear your camp gear, or other cheer gear that resembles your camp gear to these practices. (Only things that are black or white and are tight fitting) No baggie T-shirts! Every outside of class rehearsal will be worth 20 points. If you come to practice, on time, ready to work you will earn the full 20 points. Points will be deducted for coming late, not being dressed for practice, wandering away from practice (and we have to come looking for you), not cooperating with coaches, or having attitude, etc.
Extra Points: Extra points may be earned through class participation (showing great improvements) and extra tasks Lena gives you. If you need extra points let me know and I will find something for you to do. Do not depend on extra points for your grade - there may not be anything you can do for extra points when you need them!
Citizenship grades and Classroom Expectations: Citizenship grades will be determined by your class attendance and attitude. You will earn a 4, 3, or 2 if you have 0-3 absences or tardies and/or no major behavior problems. You will earn a 1 if you have 4 absences or tardies and/or more than average behavior problems. You will earn a 0 if you have 5 or more absences or tardies and/or excessive behavior problems.
